“That ICPA Qld lobbies the Department of Education (DoE) requesting that, if the Department requires proof of credentials before payment of a wage is considered, a school-based education course be the requirement until such time as a dedicated course for the Home Tutors becomes available.”
In order for Home Tutors to feel valued and respected there are two fundamentals required. One is the ability to gain credentials leading to a viable career path in the field of education. This should then automatically lead to the second – government remuneration.
We understand the ICPA Qld is working with others to have a course developed and that the survey ICPA undertook indicated that the majority of Home Tutors viewed such a course in a positive light. However, we wonder how many more years it will be until such a plan becomes reality, and consequently are asking that the already available entry courses in School Based Education Support be considered sufficient qualification in the interim.
The sooner that a wage is paid to make the Home Tutors’ role financially viable the better. It would do so much for the morale of the mothers who teach and for the young people needed to work as governesses. Not to mention the benefits for the children.
